Do you look at yourself in the mirror every morning? That face that greets you is mostly composed out of dead cells. Grim, no? Protein keratin is one of the materials that makes the outer layer of skin. To banish dull, grey skin and reveal softer, smoother skin underneath you can use different methods – scrubs, microdermabrasion or chemical exfoliation. While you should always (always!) steer clear of harsh scrubs regardless of your skin type, your skin might be too sensitive for microdermabrasion. In some cases people are allergic to Glycolic Acid (which is one of the most popular AHAs and present in a lot of chemical exfoliants). What does that leave you with? Let us introduce you to enzymes.
What are Enzymes?
Enzymes are chemicals that work by breaking down keratin and dead skin cells to reveal smooth, softer skin. They also reduce the appearance of pores. The most commonly used enzymes in skincare products are Pumpkin and Papaya. Pumpkin enzyme is a gentle exfoliator that refines, refreshes and brightens the skin. Papaya enzyme acts as a gentle exfoliator, but it also moisturizes and softens the skin.
