The Lowdown on Enzymes

Do you look at yourself in the mirror every morning? That face that greets you is mostly composed out of dead cells. Grim, no? Protein keratin is one of the materials that makes the outer layer of skin. To banish dull, grey skin and reveal softer, smoother skin underneath you can use different methods – scrubs, microdermabrasion or chemical exfoliation. While you should always (always!) steer clear of harsh scrubs regardless of your skin type, your skin might be too sensitive for microdermabrasion. In some cases people are allergic to Glycolic Acid (which is one of the most popular AHAs and present in a lot of chemical exfoliants). What does that leave you with? Let us introduce you to enzymes.

What are Enzymes?

Enzymes are chemicals that work by breaking down keratin and dead skin cells to reveal smooth, softer skin. They also reduce the appearance of pores. The most commonly used enzymes in skincare products are Pumpkin and Papaya. Pumpkin enzyme is a gentle exfoliator that refines, refreshes and brightens the skin. Papaya enzyme acts as a gentle exfoliator, but it also moisturizes and softens the skin.

If you are looking to give your skin an instant boost of radiance why not try our Trizyme Rich Cream Mask? This nourishing cream mask combines Pumpkin and Papaya Enzymes to refresh and refine the skin while Jojoba, Tamanu and Sesame oils nourish and soften. Honey, vitamin B5, Chamomile and Calendula have been added to soothe and calm.

It is recommended that drier skin types use the mask a couple of times per week while oilier skin types can use the mask on daily basis.

If you are prone to blackheads and want to clarify and minimise the appearance of pores our Trizyme Pore Refining Treatment might make an excellent addition to your skincare routine. It is an oil-free Aloe Vera based gel that combines Pumpkin and Papaya bioferment extracts to remove dry and dehydrated skin cells and reveal a softer and smoother complexion. Aspen Bark has been added to clarify the pores.

Trizyme Pore Refining Treatment can be used alongside our Mandelic Acid products to boost their performance, however it should applied on separate days.
