How To Put Together A Skincare Routine

Have you popped into any high street beauty store lately? Needless to say if you are new to skincare and when faced with so many products, putting together a routine can be daunting at first. Cleanser? Do you want foam, gel, balm or (a personal favourite) gel-to-oil? Moisturiser? Water-based or oil-based? Do you want your skin to glow or would you settle for some much needed hydration? And that is without going into all the extras – skin mists, essences or chemical exfoliants. Where do you even start? The good news is your basic skincare routine does not have to be complicated. It all comes down to 3 simple steps – cleanse, treat and moisturize.

Cleanse

Cleanser is the most important step in your routine. A good cleanser removes the daily dirt and grime and prepares the skin for all the other products in your routine. But, more importantly, it keeps the skin healthy.

Think about your skin type. Is your skin dry and dehydrated? Opt for gel, oil or cream cleansers to nourish and hydrate (you don’t want to dry out your skin further). Our Unmask Cleansing Oil combines jojoba oil with vitamins C and E to dissolve impurities without stripping the skin. Combination or oily? Look for cleansers with BHAs or AHAs to reduce congestion and breakouts. Ultralase Cleanse uses a combination of Glycolic and Mandelic Acid in an aloe vera base to refine the skin and prevent breakouts. Skin looking a bit dull? Consider brightening cleansers with vitamin C. Our Clarity-C Foaming Face Wash contains 15% of vitamin C in an aloe vera base to brighten the skin.

With skincare products such as serums or moisturizers it usually takes some time to see the results. The good thing about cleansers is you can tell pretty much right away whether it suits your skin. Is your skin feeling comfortable and looking plump and dewy? You are onto a winner. If your skin feels tight, uncomfortable or heaven forbid “squeaky” clean, the cleanser is probably too harsh for your skin.

Treat

By treatment step we mean a serum. Serums are concentrated formulas that allow you to tackle different skin issues. Do you want to fade discoloration and plump up your skin? Try a vitamin C serum. Our Clarity-C Vitamin C Serum contains a whooping 18% of vitamin C (in the form of stabilised C ester Sodium Ascorbyl Phostphate). Do you want clear skin and your main skincare goal is to reduce the appearance of pores? Try our Trizyme Pore Refining Treatment (it uses a combination of botanical enzymes and aspen bark). Want to tackle the signs of aging? Try the Synergy Age Rewind that acts like an instant cosmetic lift and is loaded with antioxidants and peptides to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. If your main issue is dry and dehydrated skin look for a simple hydrating serum.

Moisturise

A good quality moisturiser should be the last step in your skincare routine. Before you ask – yes, this rule applies even if you have oily or combination skin. For dry, dehydrated and sensitive skin look for soothing and hydrating moisturisers. A good option is our Hydraplus Cream that combines organic Beta Glucan to restore and Organic Chamomile and Calandula to calm the skin. If you are prone to blemishes and have combination skin Ultralase 5 Mandelic Acid Lotion should do the trick. It will brighten, refine and hydrate your skin. If your skin is looking dull and needs a bit of oomph Clarity-C Lotion is formulated with 15% stabilised vitamin C. Vitamin C will help fade any discoloration, prevent sun damage and encourage collagen synthesis. Our formula also contains aloe vera and jojoba oil to nourish and hydrate.

No matter what your #skincaregoals might be, once you put together a simple skincare routine, you will see noticeable results within days.
