Prep & Glow Exfoliating Toner – New Product Alert

It is easy to get excited by the next It ingredient in skincare. But for us to get excited about a new ingredient we need to see that it works. Frankly what’s the point otherwise? After months of testing* and getting the formula just right we are excited to introduce you to the latest product in Ishtar’s line up – Prep & Glow Exfoliating Toner.

Prep & Glow Exfoliating Toner

Our Prep & Glow Exfoliating Toner contains 7% Gluconic Acid and has a pH of 3.5.

Gluconic Acid is a polyhydroxy acid. It is an antioxidant that will protect the skin against free radical damage and it has anti-inflammatory properties. Gluconic Acid will gently exfoliate the skin, improve skin’s texture and act as a humectant. It will soften and hydrate the skin, leaving it supple and moisturized.

Aspen Bark extract has been added to the formula to soothe and condition the skin.

The difference between PHAs and AHAs

The main difference between polyhydroxy acids and alpha-hydroxy acids is in the size of their molecules. PHAs are made out of larger molecules than AHAs which means they are slower to penetrate the skin. Why is this important? Because it means PHAs are less irritating and drying on the skin.

PHAs include Gluconolactone (also known as Gluconic Acid), Lactobionic Acid (derived from lactose) and Galactose (sugar that is a part of collagen synthesis).

Benefits of PHAs

PHAs work on the surface of the skin to gently exfoliate and improve skin tone. The added benefit is that PHAs are natural humectants which means they bind water to the skin.  If you have dry and/or dehydrated skin and find Glycolic Acid a bit drying, PHAs will give you the benefits of chemical exfoliation without the dryness.

PHAs improve the skin’s elasticity and will give you brighter, clearer skin without causing irritation. If you suffer from rosacea, atopic dermatitis, eczema or some other sensitivity and had a hard time finding a suitable chemical exfoliant, PHAs might be a good option to consider. Because of their anti-inflammatory properties you can safely use PHAs after cosmetic procedures.

Who can use PHAs

Anyone with dull and aging skin (which, let’s be honest, is most of us). PHAs are most suitable in case your skin is sensitive and gets irritated easily. Dry skin types can also benefit because PHAs will help keep your skin well moisturized and plump. If you haven’t tried chemical exfoliation before PHAs can be a good option in case you want to start with something super gentle. That said – we still recommend to start slowly if you haven’t used acids before.
